Ineos, a company owned by British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe, has publicly expressed interest in acquiring Manchester United.
The Glazer family, who own United, stated in November that they were looking into selling the organization while they "explore strategic alternatives."
Ineos declared that the business had "officially entered the process."
Last year, after Chelsea's sale to Russian owner Roman Abramovich, Ratcliffe made a last-minute, unsuccessful £4.25 billion deal to purchase the London club.
Ratcliffe, who is one of the wealthiest people in the UK and was a lifelong United supporter, was born the joiner's son in Failsworth, Greater Manchester. According to estimates from Forbes and the Sunday Times, his personal worth ranges from £11 billion to £6 billion, ranking him as the 27th richest person in the UK.
His petrochemicals company, Ineos, has more than 26,000 employees working for it in 29 countries and generates yearly sales of nearly £50 billion.
Ratcliffe claimed he would have attempted to purchase United after failing to acquire Chelsea, but after speaking with the Glazer brothers, he claimed they had no interest in selling.
The Glazers' position has subsequently altered, and he is now participating in the bidding process.
Nice in the French Ligue 1 and Lausanne of Switzerland are owned by the Ineos group. Ineos Britannia, a prominent sailing team captained by Sir Ben Ainslie, is another team in their sporting portfolio that aims to bring Great Britain the America's Cup in 2024. Additionally, Ineos has a five-year collaboration with the Mercedes Formula 1 team, and in 2019 it acquired the British cycling team Team Sky.
Since 2005, the Glazer family has owned United.
