Manchester United has announced the jersey number that Wout Weghorst will don while on loan to United.

The No. 27 jersey has been given to the Dutch striker who spent the first half of the season on loan from Burnley to the Turkish team Besiktas.
Only Federico Macheda, who played for the first team from 2009 to 2014, and Wout have worn the number 27 for the Reds. From the time of his arrival in 2020 until the start of this season, when he joined Sevilla on loan, Brazilian defender Alex Telles wore the number.

After squad numbers were adopted, United's first-ever no.27, Gary Neville, wore it from 1992 to 1994. Neville is a club legend. The following season, the right-back adopted the customary shirt for his position, number. 2, and he kept it for the remainder of his illustrious career.

Other Reds players who have worn no. 27 include Belgian midfielder Marouane Fellaini (2015–18) and French defender Mikael Silvestre (1999–00–2007–08). The only other United player with that particular number was Terry Cooke, who wore it during the 1995–1996 and 1996–1997 campaigns.
